HISTORY
Every church has its humble beginnings and Lighthouse is no different. For us to better appreciate where our church is now, we have to see where, when and how it all began.
LIGHTHOUSE HISTORY
Lighthouse was founded in Alabang, Muntinlupa, Philippines in 1990 by American missionaries Dr. Chuck & Sherry Quinley. They came here to lead a seminary but the Lord had other plans. Lighthouse began as a neighborhood volleyball game among friends inside Ayala Alabang Village, Muntinlupa. As the Lord moved and caused these friends to be saved, the group became a Bible study and eventually a church.
From a small house church of 15 inside Ayala Alabang, it began to expand as more souls were saved and lives were changed. A church house was built inside Ayala Alabang. Afterwards, the Sunday services were moved to the Alabang Town Center. Finally in 2001, the church moved to its present location in Buencamino St, Alabang.
To keep this growing church ‘large enough to impact yet small enough to care,’ members were grouped into cells for intentional discipleship. To meet the leadership demands of this growing church, our pastors began to ‘build big people who bear much fruit,’ starting with elders and eventually leaders of cell groups and other ministries.
As the church grew, the members then reached into the community through various programs such as medical missions, kids outreach, feeding, prison outreach, and ministry to abused women and children. In addition, the leaders and members reached into the marketplace and government offices. Lighthouse pastors also partnered with international organizations such as the EQUIP of John Maxwell and the HAGGAI Leadership Institute to provide leadership training to the Body of Christ in South Manila.
From one church in Alabang, it grew into a network of churches throughout the Philippines, and deployed Filipino missionaries overseas. Since 2002, our Senior Pastor and Overseer Albert Clavo, has led Lighthouse. He was part of Lighthouse from its first year. He is a former CPA, who has an MDiv (Fuller Theological Seminary) and a DMin (Asbury Theological Seminary). He leads a network of pastors and churches that seek to establish a ‘healthy, life-giving and dynamic Lighthouse church in every region of the Philippines.’
In 2008, the Lord asked Pastor Albert what he wants to see. In prayerful response he said, ‘I want to see people from all walks of life and every season of life become fully committed disciples of Jesus Christ.’ With the help of the Holy Spirit and the passionate service of God’s people, this is already becoming a reality!
Today, Lighthouse continues with its God-given mandate of ‘Lighting up the Nation and the Nations.’
