Lighthouse Practices
In addition to the Statement of Faith of PCEC, we at Lighthouse believe and practice the following:
Worship
We believe and practice the full range of praise & worship from the Psalms, but in an orderly and edifying manner:
Singing & Shouting (Psalm 66.1)
Clapping & Raising of Hands (Psalm 47.1 and Psalm 134.2)
Use of Various Instruments & Dancing (Psalm 150.3-5)
Prayer
We believe and practice, according to the Scriptures:
Intercessory Prayer: Praying for one another’s needs & for various leaders (1 Timothy 2.1-2).
Spiritual Warfare: Engaging in a more intense form of intercession on behalf of others (Ephesians 6.18).
Fasting: Calls for physically depriving our bodies of food and drink for a designated period of time for the purpose of organized prayer (Acts 14.23).
Altar Calls
Salvation: Giving opportunities for people to receive Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord (2 Corinthians 6.2).
Holy Spirit Infilling: Giving opportunities for people to be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit with various manifestations given by the Spirit for the common good (Ephesians 5.18 and 1 Corinthians 12.7-11).
Healing & Deliverance: Giving opportunities for those who have any spiritual oppression, physical illness or emotional brokenness (Exodus 15.26 and Isaiah 53.5)
In Response to the Sermon: giving opportunities for those whom the Lord touched to respond to the preaching of the Word.
Giving
We believe that God is the owner and we are mere stewards. Giving is one way of honoring and worshiping God (Deuteronomy 8.16 & 16.16).
Tithing: 10% of our increase that is given to the church (storehouse) in recognition of God’s divine ownership over our life (Malachi 3.10) and in support of the church’s mission, ministries and ministers.
Offerings & Pledges: Anything in addition to the tithe that is given out of one’s generosity and commitment to the church’s vision and mission (2 Corinthians 9.6-7) or in response to the Pastor’s call to support a certain project or need (Exodus 35.4, 29 & 36.5-7).
Blessing God’s Servants: Any personal gift a member wishes to give to his/her spiritual leader (Galatians 6.6).
Charity: Giving to the poor & needy (Proverbs 19.17).
Christian Ordinances
Water Baptism: By immersion after a person has been saved through repentance and faith in Christ (Matthew 28.19 and Acts 2.38).
Holy Communion: For all believers to affirm their spiritual union with God through Christ and with one another (1 Corinthians 11.23-26).
Footwashing: For leaders and workers to affirm their commitment to ‘serve one another in love’ (John 13.12-17).
Cell-based Discipleship
Small groups of believers gather regularly for fellowship, prayer, bible study, accountability and mutual encouragement (Hebrews 10.24-25).
Age Based: Children, Youth, Young Adults, Adults (Single/Married) and Seniors
Gender Based: Men and Women
Geography/Time Based: Mixed age and gender but arranged according to places of residence or work or according to preferences of schedule.
Friendship Evangelism
A commitment to sharing our faith to unbelievers in a respectful and gentle manner (1 Peter 3.15).
A commitment to giving a clear and compelling explanation of our faith (Acts 8.29-38).
A commitment to develop ‘redemptive relationships’ (John 1.41-45).
Lifelong Christian Education
A commitment for consistent spiritual growth at different stages of the Christian life (Philippians 3.12-14 and 2 Timothy 2.15).
A commitment to develop and use our gifts and skills for the glory of God (Romans 12.6-8 and 1 Peter 4.10-11).
Honoring Servants
To recognize and appreciate those who serve the Lord (1 Thessalonians 5.12-13 and Hebrews 13.7).
Holiness of Life grounded on Freedom in Christ & Love for the Brethren
We enjoy our freedom in Christ and are not bound by divisive legalistic rules that produce false righteousness and spiritual pride (Galatians 5.1).
Yet we are committed to be sensitive to a brother’s spiritual condition (Romans 14).
Above all, we seek to glorify God in everything we do (1 Corinthians 10.31 and Colossians 3.17).
